Shopify Balance is a business financial account built for Shopify merchants. The solution integrates with Shopify's e-commerce platform, enabling merchants to manage their online business and their store's finances all in one place.
The goal of this project was to redesign the Move Money experience to improve the overall user experience and scale for moving money between future financial products.
I was the lead Product Designer on this project, where I was responsible for interaction design, prototyping, and creating handoff docs for engineering. Additionally, I was the Project Lead, where I focused on stakeholder alignment, project updates, and documentation.
Transferring money is a fundamental banking basic. Shopify Balance's current desktop experience for moving money is complex and hides important actions, causing confusion amongst merchants. Additionally, the experience is not scalable to support other ways of moving money as Shopify expands its financial product offerings.
How might we redesign the Move Money experience in Shopify Balance to reduce confusion and scale for future money transfer workflows?
Today, Balance supports 3 main ways to move money:
1. Add funds into Balance, from your existing business or regular bank account
2. Transfer funds out of Balance, to a payee bank account
3. Transfer funds between your Balance accounts
This is currently an ongoing project. Due to my NDA, I cannot disclose the details of my work at this time. I will provide an update once the project has shipped and is publicly available.
